This book/audio drama fits chronologically as the sixth title of the Chronicles of the Obscure Cities, but in fact has more relevance to future titles, L'ENFANT PENCH´EE and L'AFFAIRE DESOMBRES as it features characters that appear in those stories. It was published in 1990 between the releases of LA ROUTE D'ARMELIA (1988) and BRUSEL (1992). The elaborate package opens up to reveal a pcoket with an art book detailing the building Augustin Desombres purchased as his home and studio, with examples of his paintings and modern photographs of the dilapidated building. On the facing side of the folder is a die-cut form containing a CD jewel case. This product was unique for its inclusion of a CD featuring an audio recording of an incident wherein future characters Mary Von Rathen (The Leaning Girl), Prof. Wappendorf (The Leaning Girl, Shadow of the Man), Eugen Robick (The Fever in Urbicande) and others attempt to communicate with Augustin Desombres via a sound machine.
Writer Benoît Peeters and Alaxis press publisher Steve Smith are discussing an English-language version of this recording.
